On June 7th, 2024, ZIPAR and the National Road Fund Agency celebrated a significant milestone by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This MOU sets the stage for joint efforts in policy analysis, research, training, capacity building, and knowledge-sharing to enhance Zambia’s road sector.
ZIPAR’s interim Executive Director, Mr. Zali Chikuba, praised the progress made, including the long overdue expansion of the Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway, but noted that similar attention should be given to other key economic routes to reduce transport costs and improve market connections. In addition, he emphasized the need to make road transport more inclusive by investing in infrastructure for non-motorized transport users, notably pedestrians, cyclists, including non-motorized cargo vehicles, like animal carriages that are prevalent in rural areas.
In addition, NFRA signed MOUs with the University of Zambia, Mulungushi University, and Copperbelt University, promising more exciting collaborations ahead that will put informed theoretical concepts into practice while aiming to build the Zambian road infrastructure.
