Tax Policy Forum Launch

On April 25th, 2024, a momentous occasion unfolded as the Zambia Institute for Policy Analysis and Research (ZIPAR) partnered with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Revenue for Growth (R4G) project to introduce the long-awaited Tax Policy Forum at the Radisson Blu Hotel. This event drew considerable participation and was graced by the presence of the Honourable Minister of Finance and National Planning, Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, MP.

The establishment of the Tax Policy Forum was driven by a clear vision and purpose: to steer informed tax policymaking, facilitate dialogue, and advocate for fair tax policies to enhance our nation’s welfare.

The Forum is dedicated to achieving the following aims:

  1. Conducting pioneering research to offer valuable insights for tax policymaking and public education.
  2. Serving as a central platform for disseminating tax-related information, ensuring accessibility and transparency.
  3. Fostering constructive dialogues between governmental and non-governmental entities to shape just and inclusive tax policies conducive to economic growth.

To realize these objectives, the Tax Policy Forum will undertake various activities, including:

  1. Research and Policy Development: Undertaking thorough research to inform tax reform and policy decisions, with a focus on promoting economic growth, fairness, and efficiency.
  2. Stakeholder Dialogues: Facilitating productive discussions among policymakers, economists, tax professionals, and industry representatives to encourage collaboration and innovation.
  3. Public Education: Simplifying intricate tax concepts and raising public awareness through workshops, seminars, and campaigns, empowering citizens to engage actively in tax policy discussions.
  4. Capacity Building: Offering training sessions and workshops to equip stakeholders with the necessary tools and skills for effective advocacy and analysis in tax policy.
  5. Public Hearings and Lectures: Engaging with the community through public hearings, lectures, and town hall meetings to solicit feedback, raise awareness, and promote civic participation in tax policy decision-making.

The launch of the Tax Policy Forum signifies a significant stride forward in our collective endeavor to build a more transparent, equitable, and prosperous future for Zambia.
